Portsmouth is a great holiday choice for children as it carries a wealth of activities and exciting attractions. The hotel occupies a prime position in Portsmouth located directly opposite the Portsmouth Historic Dockyard, home to the ‘Mary Rose’, ‘HMS Victory’, the ‘HMS Warrior’ the 'Action Station' and much more where you can ‘uncover secrets long thought lost at sea, the story of heroes past and present, and get to grips with the ships that made history’ Portsmouth Historic Dockyard: UK's Ultimate Naval Attractions. A big favourite with kids is the D-Day Story (museum) which is only a 5-minute drive - here kids can learn all about the Normandy invasion but the big thrill is the LCT 7074, the last surviving Landing Craft Tank (LCT) from D-Day. This is a real Landing Craft Tank – 60 metres long – that carried men and tanks on D-Day, and which you can now get on board. You will see where the crew ate, slept, and worked. The DDay Story is fascinating with stunning imagery, audio-visual presentations, authentic vehicles, and hands-on interactives to bring the story to life. The D-Day Story features the experiences of men, women, and children What to see and do at The D-Day Story – The D-Day Story, Portsmouth (theddaystory.com). You can also take part in the family trail Resist!, which is inspired by the French Resistance and their role during D-Day. You will work as a team to find and solve clues and puzzles on board LCT 7074 and throughout the museum. The trail is perfect for family groups and is included in the entrance fee to the museum. Guests staying at the Royal Maritime Hotel get 25% off DDay Story tickets - ask at reception.
After that, you can visit the Spinnaker Tower with its glass floor and observation deck and enjoy breathtakingly views of Portsmouth and view of large ships sailing into port up to 23 miles Spinnaker Tower. Kids would also love the Blue Reef Aquamarine where you can experience what the world is like beneath the waves. There is a giant tropical reef tank which is the home of hundreds of brightly-colored reef fish. Visitors can also get a close-up of creatures and see life from the sea bed, thanks to the underwater, walk-through tunnel. And if that is not enough, during summer months families can take a dip in the splash pool Home - Blue Reef Aquarium Portsmouth.
Portsmouth is also graced with castles and forts and a beautiful seafront - a holiday haven for the whole family.
