FROM THE ROYAL HOUSEHOLD

Following His Majesty The King’s Accession, the Royal Household will over the coming months conduct a review of Royal Patronage. The review will cover the organisations of which Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II was Patron and those organisations to which The King and The Queen Consort were connected through Patronage or Presidency as Prince of Wales and Duchess of Cornwall.

The Royal Household will be in touch with the charities and organisations individually in due time. Until then, organisations are asked to update websites to reflect that The late Queen or The former Prince of Wales or The former Duchess of Cornwall were Patrons or Presidents. Pre-Accession references to indicate Patronage can remain in place on letter headed paper and printed material to avoid unnecessary waste. The King and Queen Consort are very grateful for the understanding of the many organisations involved, particularly at this early stage in His Majesty’s reign.

QUEEN ELIZABETH II - 1926 - 2022

On behalf of our Members, the Royal Maritime Hotel and Club would like to express our deep sadness at the news of the death of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II. We extend our sympathy and condolences to the Royal Family and to all those that formed part of Her Majesty’s Royal Household.

As well as being our Monarch for seventy years and an inspiration to our nation, Her Majesty had a very special place in the hearts of our Members - many of whom are naval and allied service personnel and veterans. Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II honoured the club with her Patronage for many years until 2007 when the role was passed to the Prince of Wales now King Charles III.

We will work with our partners to ensure our Members, supporters, and our local community can mark their respect for and appreciation of the life and service of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II.

TRAFALGAR NIGHT - FRIDAY 21ST OCTOBER 2022

Celebrate a traditional Trafalgar Night with us on Friday 21st October for £65.00 per person (£60.00 Members) and enjoy a Welcome Drink, 4-course dinner with half a bottle of wine, Port for the 'Loyal Toast' and Rum for the 'Immortal Memory'. VISIT ENGLAND ROSE AWARD WINNER FOR SERVICE EXCELLENCE

On Thursday 5th May, the Royal Maritime Hotel & Club was presented with a VisitEngland ROSE Award for Service Excellence, at the VisitEngland ROSE Awards Ceremony at the Luton Hoo Hotel & Spa.

The ROSE Award recognises accommodation providers across England who provide visitors with the warmest of welcomes. The Royal Maritime Hotel & Club was one of 10 hotels around England to be presented with this prestigious award, and one of the only hotels in the South East.

John Alderson, General Manager, attended the Awards ceremony on behalf of the Hotel & Club, ‘We are extremely pleased to receive this ROSE award in recognition of our excellent customer service and the team here should feel very proud’.
156th ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING - MAY 2022

Our 156th Annual General Meeting was held on Tuesday 10th May 2022 in the Trafalgar Ballroom - the first AGM for two years where we've had members attend in person!

HMS PRINCE OF WALES FORM A BOND OF FRIENDSHIP WITH RMH&C

We are honoured to have formed a 'Bond of Friendship' with HMS Prince of Wales.

Our Chairman and a number of other Trustees and Managers were treated to a wonderful day on board HMS Prince of Wales; it was a fabulous experience and we thank all on board and the Commanding Officer for their time and all the demonstrations that were put together.

Our 'Bond of Friendship' provides both parties with an agreement designed to benefit all those who serve on board HMS Prince of Wales and we look forward to welcoming the Ship's Company and their family and friends to the Royal Maritime Hotel & Club.
REFURBISHMENT AND RENOVATION

The Royal Maritime Club & Hotel underwent some significant refurbishment between January 2020 and April 2020 - somewhat hampered by the beginning of the pandemic. This refurbishment and enhancement was necessary in order for the Club to prosper and flourish in the future.

Our eighteen single rooms were joined together, giving us nine new Classic Double or Twin rooms and a number of our older double/twin rooms were also refurbished to a more modern standard. We still have more to do! These alterations give us more flexibility in our accommodation offering and provide improved, modern and accessible facilities, to ensure that every stay is comfortable and relaxing.

A new lift was also installed in the main foyer, providing greater accessibility to the upper floors for all our guests and we also increased the size of our main restaurant, Horatio's; to accommodate a larger seating area that links to the Quarterdeck.

We still have a number of rooms in our West Wing that are on our agenda to refurbish, as and when time and money allow!
REMEMBERING OUR VETERANS D-DAY 75

On Friday 31st May 2019, over 50 British and American veterans joined us for a commemorative luncheon to celebrate and remember D-Day and pay our respects to lost comrades. After a welcome drinks reception, veterans were able to reminisce and share stories over a ‘wartime themed’ lunch, while being entertained by 1940’s tribute act, the Amy Baker Duo. A number of them, even took to the dance floor and enjoyed a classic range of wartime songs!

The presence of the American veterans was organised by Ian Millen, the CEO of Veterans Outreach Support who work closely with us here at the Royal Maritime Club. The American veterans were part of the Greatest Generations Foundation and arrived on the Queen Mary II early on Friday morning.

The veterans enjoyed swapping stories and the lunch gave the younger generation the opportunity to hear first hand the heroic and moving accounts of the ‘greatest generations’ D Day experiences.
